The
Rehumanize Quilt has been traveling with the Eyes
Wide Open: The Human Cost of War exhibition memorializing the soldiers and civilians
who have been lost in the war in Iraq.
Of the 3,700+ pairs of boots displayed in the exhibition, each pair symbolizing
one soldier killed, the majority of which have been added since the war was deemed "over"
by the U.S. The 1,000+ pairs of civilian shoes are but a fraction of
a representation of the 500,000-1 million civilian casualties caused by
this war...just as this quilt has so far memorialized a mere fraction
of a percent of the civilians, soldiers, journalists, humanitarian works,
and private contractors killed in Iraq, in 2003 and 2004, as a result
of the U.S. invasion. |
